For a beginner set, it’s great I would argue that it IS worth $30. True it’s not the complete game, but it is the BEGINNER BOX. The Dice, Maps, and Character Folios are surely worth the $30, plus Fantasy flight has already released 2 additional characters to download for free, plus another adventure also for free as pdf files. This is supposed to be an introductory to the Edge of the Empire gameplay that Fantasy Flight uses, which is NOT the D20 system used by wizards, but is still very well done. Rather than focus on combat the dice help guide the narrative and help those who might play with a less than creative GM. Overall the game is still fun, and if you have the Beta book than this is not necessarily for you, because it’s focused on teaching those new to RPGs and Fantasy Flight’s gameplay. How many times have you seen a scene in a movie where the hero manages to leap some chasm only to have his gun tumble from its holster into the depths below? Until now no system I have played ( and in 30+years of RPG’s I have hit more than a few) could capture that without feeling forced or heaped upon you by the GM on a whim. By that same token you can miss your target but manage to roll and effect to disarm him.As daunting as the system seems all I can say is try it. After a few rolls you’ll get that hang of it and after an hour or two you will learn what you can do…
