Versatile and well-built I’ve previously used the Allen Sports Deluxe 2-Bike Trunk Rack. This is a step up as the “Premier” version of the same thing. I was frankly surprised that this was even made by the same company. Okay, yes, the Deluxe is $40 and the Premier is $110, but the difference between them is staggering.We have used the Deluxe for some long road trips (4-5 hours one-way) and it has always left me feeling a little nervous. The Deluxe locks into shape just by a couple pins and one side is more loose than it should be. One time it actually popped out and my bikes were sagging on the back of my car until I pulled over and fixed it (which is hard to do without taking the bikes off).That’s no issue with the Premier, as it snaps in place with a sturdy framework and big red handles help you unlock it and collapse it for storage. The Premier has rubber straps for securing the bikes to the rack, which are less of a hassle than the feed-through straps of the Deluxe version, but…
Just be careful with the paint of your car and make sure it fits your car I have had several bike racks throughout the years. The one that has lasted me the longest is the Graber Bike Rack. But, I have used it for a long time, and it is time to change and get something sturdier. This bike rack seems to fit the bill.There are several good things about this bike rack. The first one is the solid construction of the metal frame and secure straps for the bicycle. One of the issues I had with the Graber Bike Rack was that the straps seemed flimpsy and secured in with two tiny buttons. This one secures in with bigger snaps buttons (whatever they are called). When you extend the bike rack into position, it clicks in so that it doesn’t slide out of position. I have a Prius and it fit my car very well.Car fit is where most users ,ay encounter problems. Sturdy, steady and well built. (with some concerns) The Allen S102 came fully assembled. It is very easy to assemble that it only needed one sheet of manual. Just looking at the pictures, I was able to install it in less than ten minutes on my Accord. It is very sturdy, even on sharp side to side turns, the side straps hold it sufficiently well. You have to make sure that the straps have equal proper tension.Loading the bike is pretty easy as well. Lift it and straddle the main top bar on the two rubber carriages. Each has a thick rubber belt that wraps up the bike frame.The rack is well-built with all the straps and rubber paddings at the right place. It is foldable and is easy to store once you are done using it.At the back of the box is the list of the cars compatible with this model, which are tons of them. My Acura MDX and Honda Accord are both on the list.One of my concern is the way the rack is supported on the MDX. The upper support although…
